Copying a txn log backup from disk to tape

Hi all, If I need to backup my transaction logs to disk temporarily ( say the tape drive is not available ), and then I copy the file into a tape ( using regular TCTL or MT commands ), is that backup good ?? ie, can that tape be used for a restore if needed ?? Does tctl or mt change the format of the backup ? Will informix still recognize it as a good txn log backup ??
