Should we > trying diddling buffers and LRU to see which affects bufwait to minimise it? that is a good question. i've never really paid attention to that before. my server has been up for 4 days, and we have ~ 314,000 bufwaits. my reads are cached at 96% and my writes at 90%. there are no foreground writes, and my response time is good. gee, sounds like my last post;-) i'm not sure, but i would hazard a guess that as long as your system is running well, this isn't a particularly meaningful statistic. after all, if one session is updating a row in a page, and 60 other threads are after that same page, and this scenario occurs all day long, you will have a lot of bufwaits! so it reflects your application enviornment as well. sound resonable? mickm
