<<You are over generalizing. The TPC benchmarks vary in characteristics, and are targeted at different usage profiles. TPC-A is a simple debit-credit benchmark. TPC-C (the one currently being run by most vendors) is a more complicated order entry workload. TPC-D, which I believe is still being finalized, is a decision support benchmark with complex queries against very large tables.>> I was not over generalizing at all, I was referring to all of the TPC benchmarks. The TPC-D benchmark is highly suspect in my mind. What I can draw on is 15 years of experience developing complex decision support systems and 4 years directly involved with data warehousing. Speaking from experience, TPC's have been completely useless as an indicator of performance in this environment. The apples-to-apples analogy is falacious. DWs do not insert online, indexes are not updated, queries are large, caching characteristics are completely different. The only benchmark that matters is the one that models your system and none of the TPC's model decision support yet. _/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/ _/ Neil Raden - nraden@ix.netcom.com _/ _/ Archer Decision Sciences, Inc _/ Consultants & Systems Integrators _/ 133 E.
