I have two sites, linked via 64kbps kilostream leased line and wish to :display a Gannt chart (project mangement time/task list) on one site based :on data held on an Informix database on another site. The client is using :Informix SE, isql, i4gl on an SCO Open Server Release 5.0.2 platform. :The options I have investigated include linking the data using ODBC :drivers to Microsoft Access and then exporting the data to Microsoft :Project (yuk). Having discussed the configuration/requirement with :Microsoft who advise me that you cannot directly link an MS Project file :(MPP) to Access and the data must be exported for display as a Gannt. :Hardly acceptable as the leased line restriction (64 kbps) will make the :ODBC link between the Informix and Access database unuseable - if not :monsterously slow :-( :Do you know of any client server applications/toolsets which allow display :of data graphically either on a PC or dumb terminal, without the need for :a fast network (probably some kind of thin/thick client server :relationship). :New Era, is a possibility. However, I don't fancy the idea of programming :a Gannt chart using New Era. :Any help/contributions would be GREATLY appreciated. There are several OLE controls available that can display gant charts (and other types of project management graphics). These can be used with any language that supports OLE controls (like Delphi, Visual Basic and many others). Just check out Visual Basic Programmers Journal (any issue) for some exsamples. Now if the data needed to display your chart are too much to retrieve over you 64 Kb line even with a good ODBC driver you need some server side software to make it faster. May be you can write a stored procedure that does some of the work? In that case you can easily use that via ODBC. If that's not god enough you have to find some language that can be used for three tier application development. Not an easy task right now if you are on a budget.
