fragments.sh - A new Utility on IIUG Repository
Posted in 2009
Hi Family, It's been a while since I made a contribution to the community but I recently had the motivation to do this. Some years ago, I wrote partitions.sh, a shell/AWK script that displays some vital stats about every TBLspace in the server (or can be more selective), including the number of pages occupied/used, the number rows, the dbspace containing the TBLspace.. You get the idea. A couple of years later, I revised it so that it first calls partition-list.sh to generate a raw list of partition information, with partitions.sh using this output to gather additional data and format its output. I recently had an assignment where I needed to move nearly every TBLspaces, including the fragmented tables, to new storage. This motivated a partial rewrite with more information about the fragments. Hence, the new script, fragments.sh, with gets its raw data from fragment-list.sh. Besides, the fragment data, it also displays the owner of the table. (My client used mode-ANSI databases.) It was developed under release 10.0 and I already know it does not work under 7.23, due to access of a column in sysfragments that did not exists in 7.23. I have not tested it on anything below 10.0 You can now find them in the IIUG repository as fragments.shar. Just remember, most of my scripts pipe their output through beautify-unl.sh to get even columns. This is no exception. Enjoy! -- Jacob
