Hi All, I am new to informix, Oracle keeps all its db structure (name of DB,tablespaces, datafiles, logfiles etc) information in control files ,i want to know where IDS keeps this information (DB Structure etc). thanks Muhammad Shakeel Azeem
It's maintained internally. You can see it in the various views in sysmaster database. Regards. All of that information, beyond the path to the initial chunk of the root
dbspace (like an Oracle tablespace) which is in the ONCONFIG file
($INFORMIXDIR/etc/$ONCONFIG), is internal to the reserved pages in the root
chunk inside the server. There are onstat commands to display most of this
and there are pseudo-tables in the System Management Interface (SMI)
database sysmaster that give one a window into those structures on disk and
others in memory. For example, the disk layout (known as chunks and
dbspaces) is displayed with onstat -d and is viewable in sysmaster:syschunks
and sysmaster:sysdbspaces. Log files are displayed with onstat -l and
viewable through sysmaster:syslogs and sysmaster:syslogfil for the logical
logs (equivalent of the Oracle redo and undo logs combined) and
sysmaster:sysplog for the physical log (no direct Oracle equivalent, though
part of the function the undo logs perform is paralleled by the physical
log).
Read the Adminstrator's Guide and the Administrator's Reference manuals for
more details, documentation of the most common SMI tables, and documentation
of the onstat reports available.
