The program should: 1. Connect to one database. 2. Select data into program arrays. ** 3. Disconnect from the database. 4. Connect to other database. 5. Insert saved data into appropriate tables. 6. Disconnect from the second database. 7. If there were any problems, mail a message to your DBA. 8. Quietly go away. ** This assumes the data is of moderate size. If the data is truly huge, then you might want to unload to file(s), and then load from file(s) in step 5. Key points to this approach are: 1. Program runs automatically, via cron. 2. It requires embedded SQL/C products for both DBMSs. 3. Mailing error reports eliminates the need to check on progress; if there was a problem, the DBA will find out upon checking mail.
