libjsig.so: cannot open shared object file
Posted in 2010
On IDS 11.50.FC6X2 on Linux, starting the engine with the JVM/Krakatoa configured failed: lmjava.so loaded but libjvm.so in jre/bin/j9vm couldn't load because libjsig.so (located in jre/bin) was not found. Suggestions included checking that INFORMIXDIR matched the JVP onconfig paths, symlinking libjsig.so into j9vm, and adding both bin and bin/j9vm to LD_LIBRARY_PATH — none worked, as IDS appeared to reset LD_LIBRARY_PATH. Via a PMR, the poster found the real cause: /etc/ld.so.conf lacked entries for $INFORMIXDIR/extend/krakatoa/jre/bin and .../jre/bin/j9vm; adding them fixed it.

Deja Vu all over again:
I am simply trying to setup the jvm and I get an error on engine startup. I
have verified that libjvm.so is where it is suppose to be. Any ideas anyone?

In the log entries, at one point foiles are being loaded from
$INFORMIXDIR/extend while later on they are coming from /hom/informix.
This is perfectly acceptable provided they are the same place ! To
what is $INFOMRIXDIR set ? You need to make sure this is the path for
the JVP parameters in the onconfig file.
Keith
Thanks Keith. $INFORMIXDIR=/home/informix which is a soft link to /IDS/IDS115FC6X2 In any event I have tried both ways. I have located the 'missing' library libjsig.so in JVPJAVAHOME/bin; but the jvm library libjvm.so is in JVPJAVAHOME/bin/j9vm. Maybe this is the way things are suppose to be but it looks like the jvm can't find the libraries in the bin directory. Do you know if there is a system parameter that needs to be set?

It may be that such a soft link (ln -s) would work in this case so as to make libjsig.so appear in JVPJAVAHOME/bin/j9vm. Would be worth a try, you wouldn't lose or break anything, easy to undo and it might work !! Keith
Include the following in the IDS startup environment:
Somewhere after INFORMIXDIR is defined.
export
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:$INFORMIXDIR/JVPJAVAHOME/bin:$INFORMIXDIR/JVPJAVAHOME/bin/j9vm
That might do the trick.

It was worth a shot. In the j9vm directory I created a softlink: > ln -s /home/informix/extend/krakatoa/jre/bin/libjsig.so libjsig.so informix@psdb04sat:/home/informix/extend/krakatoa/jre/bin/j9vm-> ll total 116 lrwxrwxrwx 1 informix informix 49 2010-02-23 15:19 libjsig.so -> /home/informix/extend/krakatoa/jre/bin/libjsig.so -rwxr-xr-x 1 informix informix 116328 2007-10-25 10:31 libjvm.so But still getting the same error.
Thanks Art,
I added this line to the informix .profile:
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:$INFORMIXDIR/extend/krakatoa/jre/bin:$INFORMIXDIR/extend/krakatoa/jre/bin/j9vm
curiously this is what showed up in the log:
07:06:10 LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/home/informix/extend/krakatoa/jre/bin/j9vm
07:06:10 Cannot load lib
/home/informix/extend/krakatoa/jre/bin/j9vm/libjvm.so: error : libjsig.so:
cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
It would seem the LD_LIBRARY_PATH is being reset/truncated elsewhere.
I opened PMR#36623,49R,000 and found that /etc/ld.so.conf was not correct. The last two line should be: <$INFORMIXDIR>/extend/krakatoa/jre/bin <$INFORMIXDIR>/extend/krakatoa/jre/bin/j9vm substitute <$INFORMIXDIR> with the actual path; in my case /home/informix.
