If there are two indexes available and it is using the wrong one, try putting an expression into the where clause on the column containing the unwanted index, this may force it to use the one you want instead. eg where ord_no+0=l_ord_no and cust_no=l_cust_no should ignore ord_no index for strings add a null where ord_char||""=l_ord_no and cust_no=l_cust_no
