Can anyone out there shed any light on this? Thanks!!! Shared libraries are a feature of the 7.2 release, due out very soon. This refers to multiple applications sharing copies of the Informix libraries, thus saving the memory associated with each app having its own copy linked into the executable. Another feature is thread-safe libraries for use with ESQL/C. Each app may have many threads, each with its own connection to the database. Static libraries are still supported. The thread-safe functionality follows the DCE model from OSF. So, in addition to investigating a non-Informix alternative, you should (at least) investigate the new capabilities of this release. There will be a document which will highlight these features, and an entirely new doc set with details. There will be many changes from the 5.x version, and it sounds like you are ready for them. Hope this helps, Clem ______________________________________________________________ | Clem Akins clema@informix.com | | Informix Software, Inc International Support | | Posted from: Lenexa, KS, USA Standard Disclaimers Apply | |____________________________________________________________|
