INFORMIX-ONLINE DYNAMIC SERVER AVAILABLE ON 64-BIT VLM SILICON GRAPHICS SYSTEMS MENLO PARK, Calif. (January 21, 1997)--Informix Software, Inc., (NASDAQ:IFMX) the leading provider of innovative database technology, announced today the availability of an optimized version of INFORMIX-OnLine Dynamic Server for Silicon Graphics, Inc. systems, which fully supports 64-bit very large memory(VLM) addressibility for its customers. The VLM-enabled Informix/Silicon Graphics V7.21 database server system will provide users with infinite scalability, advanced speed and better overall system performance for very large database (VLDB) and business critical applications such as OLTP and data warehousing. Compared to 32-bit UNIX systems, which support a maximum address space of four gigabytes, 64-bit VLM systems can address memory or files spanning into the terabytes range, enabling users to store significantly larger amounts of vital information and utilize it to make quicker strategic business decisions. "This is a significant milestone for the Silicon Graphics and Informix relationship, and it underscores the strong technology leadership and momentum between our companies" said Ash Munshi, vice-president and general manager of Network Systems Division at Silicon Graphics. "Informix is proud to be the first database vendor to commercially ship a VLM-enabled database for the Silicon Graphics platform," said Jeff Hudson, vice president of business development and product marketing at Informix. "The 64-bit memory capacity creates new opportunities for customers in our data warehousing and mission-critical OLTP applications markets." INFORMIX-OnLine Dynamic Server V7.21 is commercially available to users of the Silicon Graphics CHALLENGE servers running the IRIX 6.2 operating system. Silicon Graphics currently plans to make OnLine Dynamic Server V7.21 available on the Origin server platform in Q1, 1997. Additional information on the benefits of 64-bit computing is available on the Silicon Graphics website at "www.sgi.com".
