INFORMIX AND DAOU TECHNOLOGY TO FORM JOINT VENTURE Informix Expands Leadership in Korean Market SEOUL, Korea (Apr. 3, 1995) -- Informix Corporation (NASDAQ:IFMX) today announced that it has agreed to form a joint venture to acquire the database division of Daou Technology, Inc. of Korea. The joint venture, to be called Informix Daou Korea Ltd., will be owned 80 percent by Informix and 20 percent by Daou. The formation of the joint venture and the acquisition of the division, a part of Informix's continued efforts to expand its leadership in the Korean market, are expected to be completed today. Ik Rae Kim, president and CEO of Daou Technology, Inc., will act as chairman of Informix Daou Korea Ltd. S. I. Lee, the general manager of Informix Software Korea, Ltd., has been named general manager of Informix Daou Korea Ltd., and will be responsible for managing day-to-day operations of the new joint venture. Daou has been very successful in establishing Informix as one of the top relational database management system (RDBMS) vendors in the Korean market. As the leading Korean distributor of open systems products, they have had the rights to market, sell, and support Informix's full suite of RDBMS products throughout Korea since 1986. "Informix and Daou have had a mutually beneficial partnership in Korea for nearly a decade, " said Phillip E. White, chairman and CEO, Informix. "We anticipate tremendous growth in the Korean database market, and the joint venture between Informix and Daou will position us to greatly expand our distribution and provide better support to our partners and customers." " Results of the Transaction Informix Daou Ltd. will expand Informix's resources to meet the anticipated growth in the Korean open systems database market. The expansion will include increasing the staff by 150 percent, acquiring larger offices, and establishing a new customer education center to provide training for end users and partners.
