Re: Anyone display different colors in PER form screens?

} In appendix I of Volume 2 of version 4.0 of the 4GL } Reference manual is a description of how to create or modify } one's TERMCAP file entry to get colors and highlighting } enabled. I'm working with a sun workstation running } X-Windows (X11R5). I've made the changes as described, } using the entry of "xterm". In my 4GL program I use the } attribute clause to try to display text } with different colors and attributes. The result is } that different attributes such as underlining and reverse } video work fine, however I cannot get different colors to } display. I've also found that by printing the right escape } sequences from a non-4GL program I can set text attributes } but not color -- same problem. The X books, such as volume } 3 of the O'Reilly X-Windows series, show escape sequences } for changing text attributes but not colors. I'm beginning } to suspect that what I want to do cannot be done on a SUN } workstation running X-windows. } } Does anyone know for sure? Or, more importantly, has anyone } been able to get different colors to display in } different fields of PERFORM screens on sun workstations? } } Many thanks to anyone who knows a way. } } -- } Richard Baumann (805) 447-8391 } International Clinical Safety } AMGEN } --------------------------------------------------------------- } The opinions expressed herein are strictly those of the author. } *** Disclaimer: These are the opinions of the poster not Amgen Inc.*** } Richard, I think that you might want to use 'colorxterm', not 'xterm' when you create your window. If you are creating an 'xterm' window you will be operating in a monochrome environment. Sure, the foreground color need not be white and the background color need not be black, but if you choose red as a foreground color everything which is not part of the background will be that same color (ie. monochrome). When your application sends a regis color command to the window, the window will just ignore it and display the element in the fore- ground color. I believe that you would still identify your TERM as 'xterm', even if using a 'colorxterm' window. Please excuse me if I am way off base here. -- Regards, Walter S.
