RSS out of sync
Posted in 2023
Cherry's 12.10.FC8WE RSS stopped applying logs after the primary's log backups failed and logs were backed up manually with ontape. Andreas Legner advised on the RSS: onmode -ky, oninit -PHY --forget_logs, then onmode -d RSS. This fixed it. Art Kagel advised configuring enough logical logs to last four days.

Hello,
We have issue with comvault today and primary informix instance logical backup stopped which led to logical log full and stopped instance.
As quick solution, i have taken manual log backup with ontape -a -d which backed up log files to local directory.
server was bounced once to fix the issue before i jump in and backup logical files manully and brought Informix online.
Now RSS instance was not applying logs and seems to be struck or waiting for something.
I checked onstat -g rss verbose and it looks good.
informix:/home6/loglogdb/backup> onstat -g rss verbose

Apparently the fact that you backed up those logs on the primary didn't make it to the RSS yet (in which log did this occur?), and I'm afraid this will not recover itself.
What you can try, on this RSS, is:
- onmode -ky
- oninit -PHY --forget_logs
- onmode -d RSS onesada

Cherry: Separate but related issue: This is why I always recommend that my clients have at least enough logical logs configure to be able to survive for four days without the logs filling and blocking transactions, just in case the log back ups fail for some reason, even over a long weekend! You need more logical logs! Art ------------------------------ Art S. Kagel, President and Principal Consultant ASK Database Management Corp. www.askdbmgt.com ------------------------------
