Distribution changes at Informix UK
Posted in 1992
I recently installed two more copies of Informix and, on looking at the key card, discovered there was no Serial Key. I telephoned Sphinx/Level V who eventually informed me that there was now a freephone number at Informix that had to be called to authorise the software. I can quite see why Informix would want to do this, since obviously they feel that their own distributors are not giving them enough feedback on where the legitimate packages are installed. However, it would be useful if, on the keycard, the freephone number was printed where the key used to be so that we don't first have to phone up our distributor to get that information. I suppose it is just possible that the info was in one of the little booklets but since I have installed a large number of these packages, I don't need to look in the box. The keycard tends to be the only thing I read. Regards Neil Neil S.
