limit connections

Is there any way to limit connections to an informix instance ? I understand that even if you set nettype for a certain number of connections, once more than that come to the server, Informix will dynamically create a new poll thread. But what if we only want to allow a certain amount of connections on the box ? And, even more specifically, can we limit only the amount from a certain user ?
