IBM to hire Gumby!
Posted in 2009
Not a technical thread at all. On 1 April 2009, Ian Michael Gumby posted a tongue-in-cheek "announcement" that IBM had decided it was cheaper to hire him than to let him post freely on the list, with jabs at various IBM and IIUG figures. Another poster immediately pointed out the date, and the rest of the thread is banter between Gumby, Mark Townsend and Fernando Nunes about whose IQ the move would raise, plus a passing quip about Oracle's bid for Sun. No problem is posed and no resolution exists; it is purely an April Fools' joke and follow-up humour.

Ok, So yeah, here's the other rumor that you might hear about today... Some in IBM ran the numbers and have found out that its cheaper to hire me on in some capacity than it is to keep me free with no NDA to post here and make noise. Something about finding a way to scuttle this Sun deal... ;-) So yes, starting today, I'm supposed to head over to the local IBM office and start my indoctrination process. I didn't want you to hear it from Stuart Litel, so I just had to put it out there first. Sorry Stuart, I know how you like to spin a little 'Stuart myth' but lets face it. The story alone is enough to make even the insane clown posse lead by OTC to sit up and want a drink! Oh well, I guess I can't pick on Ambush, Jerry, Alyse, Inhi or even gosh, Steve Mills anymore. (Although I got an exception to allow me to taunt Fernando, Serge, and Steve Miller III among a few others.) C'Ya! -G

Wow. Kind of makes things interesting. Is it real, like day 1 of Q2, or is it a hoax? Did you know they let me keep my original serial number? ;-) -G

Empowered by more IQ we would make better contributions to the list, like other IBMers do ;) How nice of you to consider this option or... Option 2: Joining IBM would make Gumby get out of the list. So, to validate your statements: LIQ > GIQ > IIQ Question: How come a list of so smart people use Informix? It must be because Informix is a very good product... right? or... Option 3: Don't even considered it... You're not that smart :) Regards -- Fernando Nunes Portugal http://informix-technology.blogspot.com My email works... but I don't check it frequently...
Dude! If you were only posting yesterday! :-( Look, here's a free clue. Take your IQ and Serge's IQ. Add them together. Now you're getting close to my IQ. As boastful as it may sound, the reality is that its probably closer to the truth. :-P But hey! What do I know? Its not like I predicted Oracle should/would make a bid for Sun, right Mark? :-) -G > From: domusonline@gmail.com > Subject: Re: IBM to hire Gumby! > Date: Thu, 2 Apr 2009 23:26:27 +0100 > To: informix-list@iiug.org > > Mark Townsend wrote: > > Ian Michael Gumby wrote: > >> Ok, > >> > >> So yeah, here's the other rumor that you might hear about today... > >> > >> Some in IBM ran the numbers and have found out that its cheaper to > >> hire me on in some capacity than it is to keep me free with no NDA to > >> post here and make noise. > >> > >> Something about finding a way to scuttle this Sun deal... ;-) > >> > >> So yes, starting today, I'm supposed to head over to the local IBM > >> office and start my indoctrination process. > >> > >> I didn't want you to hear it from Stuart Litel, so I just had to put > >> it out there first. > >> Sorry Stuart, I know how you like to spin a little 'Stuart myth' but > >> lets face it.
