Can anyone give me explanation of the difference between data replication enterprise replication.
There are two supported methods of replication with IDS, HDR (High Avaliability Data Replication) and ER (Enterprise Replication). ER is sometimes also called CDR (Contineous Data Replication). Basically the difference between the two is that HDR replicates a mirror image between a primary and secondary system. ER replicates data and does not necessarily produce a mirror image. Since HDR replicates a mirror image, the source and target machines must be the same archecture and must have the same disk/chunk layout. With ER this is not the case. Here's a summary describing some of the key differences: HDR: Machines must be same archecture. Only one primary and one secondary. The secondary can not be used for updates. Replicates a mirror image All data on the primary is replicated Secondary can be used only for reporting DDL commands are replicated Replication ceases if network connection is broken ER: Machines can be dis-similar Can support update anywhere as well as primary-target Can have any number of servers replicating with each other Selective - not all tables/columns/rows have to be replicated Some tables can be replicated between certain servers while others can be replicate to other servers If network connection is broken, data to be replicated is staged DDL is not replicated Kenneth Garrett wrote: > Can anyone give me explanation of the difference between > data replication enterprise replication.
