One possibility is Resource Table Overflow messages which are critical condition messages that are repeated everytime some session encounters the problem until it clears up and that can add up to millions not thousands. Example "Lock table overflow". If you have several processes each trying to update millions of rows in LOCK MODE ROW tables and not handling errors then if you only have 100,000 locks configured there will be many hundreds of thousands of messages until the transactions are either rolled back or committed. It's not the engine's fault if the programmers were dense enough not to check for errors and roll back or commit on error as appropriate. Art S. Kagel
