What happens if logical logs are full

I have manually backed up the logs using tbmonitor, and then continued normal operations, after re-starting the tbtape. You can simply not restore the last log (it asks you for the log numbers). That may be almost no loss. Lastly, there is a tbzero Informix internal utility that someone will surely mention. It manually overwrites that part of the database that says "there is a transaction still open" with "none open" status. It may fix your problem, but it stands a good chance of leaving your data in an inconsistent state. It can totally hose your database, and is only marginally better than a restore from archive. The answer is "don't fill up your logs." Its corollary is "don't fill up your locks." You must do a whole bunch of system/database admin to ensure that these things are taken care of. That's why DBA guys make *the big bucks*. (or is it *the big marks*? I always give my DBAs high marks, if not big bucks.)
