Triggers and Data Duplication
Posted in 1994
We have two machines which need to access the same table, it was found that the performance was poor when the table was remotely accessed using I-Star. Initial testing figures showed a 1 sec overhead for a query returning a single row, whereas reports which scanned the complete database (80,000 rows) performed 5-7 times (~16min <-- ~2-3min) slower when compared to a local copy. One of the options we are investigating to improve performance is to keep a local copy of a table on the two different machines. These tables will have to be kept synchronized and we planning on using triggers to perform data duplication. We have Informix Online 5.02, Star 5.02 running on Sparc690 using SunOs4.1.3. Are triggers reliable to perform data duplication? Are there any parameters that can be tuned in I-Star to perform better with massive data transfer across the network? Suggestions? Comments?
