I am sure some of you out there have set up some real client/server applications using the numerous Informix products. Could you please expound on some of your experiences? My setup is quite simple. I have a network of machines with NFS. I want to run an Informix On-Line database server on a server machine. And I want to run my client processes (ISQL or ESQL/C applications) on different machines on the network. What kind of setup do I need? What are the products that I need: Informix-Star? Informix-Net? How should I go about doing the setup? How do the client processes figure out where the server process is running? What kind of licensing do I need? Should I install the products in different directories for the client and server machines? Any related information would be appreciated. I have gone through some of the Informix documentation but it isnt clear and I am looking for some real life experiences. Or is everybody just running their server processes and their client processes on the same machine. I will refrain from mentioning how all this was very easy with Sybase :-) Thanks in advance. I will summarise all replies mailed to me. Or you can post followups.
