Problem with field CHAR(3)

When I tried use in my 4gl program field CHAR(3), I could not query on that filed using standart construct statement, when I change it to decimal 3,0 it worked fine. In my application I need to use value "005", therefore I can't use decimal 3,0. I am using SE 4.1, 4gl RDS4.1 on SCO UNIX 3.2.4.
