RE: Table creation date

Don't do the UPDATE statistics. The created column in SysTables is always
up to date.
UPDATE STATISTICS does not do SELECT COUNT(*) per se; it goes directly tothe index file (under SE) and retrieves the actual number of rows in the
table from that file. It does not vary with the size of the table - again,
under SE. Under OnLine, the rules are more complicated and depend on which
version of OnLine you are using.

Subject: Table creation date
I'm working on INFORMIX 4GL v4.11 under AIX 3.0
I need to find out the creation date of a table. So I do:
UPDATE STATISTICS
SELECT tabname, created FROM systables
WHERE ...
But UPDATE STATISTICS becomes slower as tables grow.
I know that this statement launches a SELECT COUNT(*) for each table.
Q: How can I get the creation date without using UPDATE STATISTICS
and be sure that the value is correct?
TIA.
