Look up "Multiple Residency" in the Online Administrator's CD or the Online Administrator's Manual. It lays out the exact procedure for what you want to do. We are using multiple residency for Baan IV for Production & Development instances. One is completely cooked and the other raw. We've had no trouble so long as you follow the instructions they specify. Additionally, create a new login (say informix5 for Baan 5) and then edit /etc/passwd and set the uid to the same as user informix. Then have this login point to the new instance. Trust me this will save you the agony of bringing down the wrong instance or dropping chunks off the wrong instance! Rene
