Why are you trying to unload from 7.31 and load to 9.40?. If it is a on=
e
time process, then please contact our tech support and we can do it for=
you. Actually the collation (locale) for 7.31 onpload database is diffe=
rent
from locale for 9.40 database plus other schema differences.
You will not be able to make the 9.40 onpladm work on 7.31 database. It=
is
a feature request. Please call our tech support people.
Now the answers to your questions:-

1. Upgrade the 7.31 server to 9.40 server. Upgrade the onpload database=
only using conpload.sh 7.31 9.40 script.
(It will be better if you let our tech support to do it rather than =

yourself). This may screw your onpload setup....!!
2. Then try to connect the 9.40 onpladm on 7.31 server to create projec=
ts.
I think it should work.

7.31 does not have onpladm. So not possible.
I do not know why you are not upgrading directly from 7.31 to 9.40. Tha=
t is
supported.
You will not need HPL to do any unload and load then.

i try to use HPL under AIX 5.3 / IDS 9.40 to unload data from a 7.31 ID=

under AIX 5.1
and then load data on the 9.40 server.
i used onpladm to create a project for the entire database :
i've set INFORMIXSERVER=3Dmy731host on the 9.40 IDS.
onpladm create project myproj -d /data -D myDB -n -S my940host
when it generates the project i've got an : Error -217 opening cursor
for each table of the source server.
if i use dbschema on the 9.40 to get the schema of the DB under 7.31 i =
have
:
-217 - Column (collation) not found in any table in the query (or SLV i=
s
undefined).
-206 - The specified table (informix.sysxtdtypes) is not in the databas=
e.
-111 - ISAM error: no record found.
if i understand well, the system database is different between 7.31 and=
9.40.
