We just purchased an upgrade from 7.31.UD5 on dynix/ptx to 9.4.XXX on AIX 5.2 and we also had some sticker shock regarding the price. We had a 700 user license. Our sales rep at IBM converted us to a CPU based license and it was a lot cheaper. You may want to look into that.
