OnBar & ISM

I am currently running On-Archive and am looking to migrate to OnBar & ISM. All the comments about On-Archive suggest it ought to be avoided at all cost as it is far too complicated but it has been set up here and works like a treat. With On-Archive the backup command issued contained among other things the name of the volume set to be used. All our backup tapes are labelled servername_day_weeknumber, eg hpserver1_mon_1. If the incorrect tape was loaded the archive would fail. Is there similar functionality with OnBar/ISM ??? Or does ISM just use whatever tape is mounted ? Sue
Hi, with ON-Bar and ISM you even have a so-called "Expiration Policy" that you can configure (although for that you need to use the underlying "nsr..." commands of ISM. (After all ISM is a storage manager, based on Legato Networker, albeit an older version of it and some limitations of functionality.) So with the wrong tape in place, ISM would reject it. But the problem is: From IDS 9.30 onwards you don't get the On-Archive programs any more. > With On-Archive the backup command issued contained among > other things the name of the volume set to be used. But OnBar/ISM seems to handle these things pretty well - unless you want to do something 'special', e.g. not to restore from the latest backups to the original location. Regards, Andreas Kutsche
I have used ISM to Disk and have learned that ISA 1.50 is a nice tool to set up when you configure ISM to backup to tape or Disk. Carl Berner
