Is the database you're trying to connect to on a different machine? I've seen sqexplain.out get created in the informix directory of the remote machine. In which case, me as myself didn't have permission to write to the informix directory, but user informix did. As myself, I got the -534 SQLCODE, but a 0 for the ISAM code. I wouldn't put too much faith in ISAM codes. They are sometimes very confusing and sometimes seem totally unrelated. After you figure out the problem, you say "Yeah, I can see how that kinda fits in a vague sort of way". Have you got a database open already when you execute the explain statement? Or do you do an explain statement first? __________________________________________________________________________ Joel Schumacher JCPenney Co. - UNIX Network Systems jschumac@uns-dv1.jcpenney.com 12700 Park Central Pl (214) 591-7543 Dallas TX 75251
