But the great thing about Delphi is that, although it gives you a pretty GUI development it also has a real programming language underneath it. Sooo... all the stuff you can define at Design Time, you can also define at runtime. The only problem is that the Delphi documentation is aimed at newbie programmers rather than more seasoned war-horses like us lot (or me at least) and so don't always point you in the right direction. Just because you can't point and click on it, doesn't mean it can't be done nor does it necessarily mean that it's difficult. The help topics are much more use in this regard. I spent some time today figuring out how to colour individual elements in a "Grid" (more or less an INPUT ARRAY, in 4GL-speak). Although there is no special facility in Delphi to perform this task, a bit of a roam through the help system and playing with some sample source code, and waddaya know -- works like a charm. Just 4 lines of code, but it was the figuring out *which* four lines that took the time. The number one problem with Delphi is this: If somebody asks "Can you do X in Delphi?" the answer is always "Yes". With Informix-4GL you could either do something, or you couldn't. Life was simpler then...
