Unix-to-Unix Informix connectivity

We're building a system with Informix for UnixWare on one box and just UnixWare on the second box. Using 7.10.UC1 Informix. The non-Informix box will hold ESQL/C client programs that need to access the Informix box. Is Informix-Star available/appropriate/workable on 7.1 WITHOUT the rest of the Informix package? Or do I need a full-blown Informix on the client box just to get the I-Star component that is needed to talk to the Informix machine? I know I-Net/PC works from a non-Informix PC client, but what about a Unix client?
