identifying version of nsr
Posted in 2009
Question: how to find out which Legato/NetWorker version underlies Informix Storage Manager (ISM), since nsradmin in $INFORMIXDIR/bin gave no obvious option. Suggestions included trying help flags, and running nsrwatch (which prints a NetWorker version banner) — but Jonathan Leffler noted ISM ships only ism_watch and none of the nsr*/ism*/sav* binaries print version info with -v/-V/--version (most just hang); ism_chk.pl didn't help either. Another tip to read $INFORMIXDIR/ism/index/CLIENT_NAME/README didn't apply on a freshly installed instance; the only version data found was $INFORMIXDIR/ism/ISMVersion (e.g. ISM.2.20.UC1.120). No definitive way to map that to a Legato release was recorded.

How do you determine the version of Legato/NSR that Informix Storage Manager is using? I know there's a nsradmin program in $INFORMIXDIR/bin, but I don't know how to pass it the right options.
Maybe try; nrsadmin --help or nrsadmin /? or nrsadmin -- Bob ----- Original Message ----- From: "MARK UNDERWOOD" <munderw2@csc.com> To: ids@iiug.org Sent: Thursday, September 24, 2009 7:55:55 AM GMT -05:00 US/Canada Eastern Subject: identifying version of nsr [17154] How do you determine the version of Legato/NSR that Informix Storage Manager is using? Try nsrwatch at the command line. Should show something like: Version: NetWorker 7.4.1.Build.335 Power Edition/135 Clare From: "MARK UNDERWOOD" <munderw2@csc.com> To: ids@iiug.org Date: 24/09/2009 09:56 PM Subject: identifying version of nsr [17154] How do you determine the version of Legato/NSR that Informix Storage Manager is using? The nearest program is ism_watch, and it does not seem to emit version information. Indeed, I could persuade any of the 'nsr*', 'mm*', 'ism*' or 'sav*' programs to generate version information with '-v', '-V', '-version', '--version'. Quite a lot of them did not complain about the arguments; most of them just appeared to hang - probably waiting for input from somewhere. There's a script 'ism_chk.pl' (Perl script) that might do the job if ISM is configured - it pokes around for version information, but didn't yield any useful information for me (but I don't have ISM fully configured). > From: "MARK UNDERWOOD" <munderw2@csc.com> > Date: 24/09/2009 09:56 PM > > How do you determine the version of Legato/NSR that Informix Storage > Manager > is using? Have a look in the $INFORMIXDIR/ism/index/CLIENT_NAME/README file. You will find Legato Revision info there. I saw some code to suggest that if you have ISM configured (as opposed to just installed) and perhaps if you have run it, then maybe version information would appear in some files, but the only file under $INFORMIXDIR/ism is ISMVersion (which said ISM.2.20.UC1.120). > -----Original Message----- > From: ids-bounces@iiug.org [mailto:ids-bounces@iiug.org] On Behalf Of > Jonathan Leffler > Sent: Friday, 25 September 2009 1:02 PM > To: ids@iiug.org > Subject: Re: identifying version of nsr [17176] > > On Thu, Sep 24, 2009 at 16:44, clare.hodgson@industry.nsw.gov.au < > clare.hodgson@industry.nsw.gov.au> wrote: > > > Try nsrwatch at the command line. > > > > Should show something like: > > > > Version: NetWorker 7.4.1.Build.335 Power Edition/135 > > If it is ISM that Mark is after, then it appears that there is no nsrwatch > in $INFORMIXDIR/bin.
