You can go over his article in Database Programming & Design - must have been last year about this time. I have glanced at the book but not much else. He has some concepts about the actual application of SPLs which go beyond where The Fine Manual goes. You can get insight into these in the above mentioned article. If I remember correctly the 3 main points from his article... "Why use SPLs?" - security SPLs get permissions of the creator of them - so users don't need update/write access to tables - integity/consistency if your table updates are done with SPL then project programmers can't screw up themselves - they call the SPL to do the work - speed the SPL works at the engine level, not on your client. You wind up getting less traffic over the net. I tried to debunk this last point (having seen some pretty slow SPLs), and wound up getting converted. cheers j. _____________________________________________________________________________ Jack Parker - Hewlett Packard, DMD/IS Boise, Idaho, USA jparker@hpbs3645.boi.hp.com Back in Boise _____________________________________________________________________________ If anything can go wrong, fix it.
