Re: informix 408 error

I have had this problem in the past. What caused it was a bug in a 4GL program that was inserting uninitialized data into the database. Apparently at some point we inserted a value into a date column that the On-Line backend could not deal with. We could reliably crash the backend by trying to select certain rows out of the table. The only thing Informix could recommend was to restore from a backup. The catch to this is that tbtape will backup the corrupt data and not say a thing about it. We ended up having to go back several backup sets to find a copy from before the corrupt data was inserted into the database. BTW: one of my major gripes with 4GL is that it will let you insert corrupt data into the database. You must remember to initialize every variable you declare or you will get into trouble. jeffl ---- Jeffrey F.
