For those who had allways wished they could migrate their 4gl applications to Oracle. ******************************************************************************* QueriX A unique Conversion Tool for migrating Informix 4GL Applications to Oracle *********************** * Introduction * *********************** Desirable as it is to re-engineer applications in the client/server paradigm, the accomplishment of this change is always long and expensive, and functionality and price/performance are not guaranteed. There is no doubt that distributed processing and client server systems may be used to provide modular scaleable applications for the future. However there is considerable scope for any tool that can breathe fresh life into the existing applications whilst such long term development is taking place, and indeed the 'life breathed in' may be so good that other long term solutions may no longer be needed. Querix is such a tool; in one incarnation it makes Informix applications run 'better', in another it lets Informix 4GL run against an alternative database ---- Oracle 7. The Querix 4GL compiler converts Informix 4GL into a faster and more efficient binary. The two versions either: 1 produce a 'better' (smaller, faster, cheaper) binary for Informix users 2 produce a binary that will run existing Informix 4GL applications against an Oracle database In both cases the compiler is more rigorous and helpful than the original Informix compiler. Querix was originally intended as a tool to better use existing code or as a conversion/migration tool (i.e. protecting investment in 4GL code). However as Querix is a friendlier development system there is now a clear benefit in actually developing new applications in Querix. In this case Querix presents an opportunity to preserve and further use your existing staffs' 4GL skills with a more flexible(cross database) framework (i.e.protecting investment in people). The advent of the Oracle back end is a quantum leap forward in instant re-engineering. it is unique in the marketplace. There is noother product that comes close. There are a series of factors which make it very difficult to engineer a 100% automatic tool for all situations, however Querix does automatically process more than 99% of Informix code and with the majority of users a 100% automatic compilation is achieved. Faced with maybe hundreds of man years invested in existing code and the potential hundreds of man years in writing 'new generation' code, the few days that might be required to complete a Querix re-engineering are insignificant. **************************************************************************** ******* For more information please contact: * OR at Oracle Ali Tel: +44 1703 232345 * Fax: +44 1703 399685 * migrators@us.oracle.com email: ali@querix.co.uk * * WWW site http://www.querix.uk.co/ * **************************************************************************** ********* ___________________________________________________________QueriX (UK) Ltd Tel: +44 1703 232345 10 Bellevue Road Fax: +44 1703 399685 Southampton email: ali@querix.co.uk SO15 2AY www: http://www.querix.co.uk __________________________________________________________
