Migrating 7.13 to 7.22 on DEC

We are running into an error when we attempt to migrate an Informix instance from 7.13 to 7.22 under DEC unix 3.2g. We have many dbspaces and chunks in this instance (over 300) and it seems that Online coughs when it attempts to open chunk number 256. This menas that we can't get Online to initiate. We can successfully migrate instances with less than 256 chunks. Additionally, we can perform the same migration on a Solaris platform, with over 300 chunks in the instance. Has anyone seen this type of situation before? Is there a DEC environment variable or kernel setting that whould fix this?
