Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
A poster using Aqua Data Studio against an IDS 10 database asked how to do a LIKE condition on a TEXT column. Art S. Kagel said LIKE and MATCHES cannot be used on TEXT and the text DataBlade is needed. Superboer described the Excalibur text blade for indexed searching of large objects and suggested a custom C function. No simple SQL solution given.

I'm using Aqua Data Studio to query an informix idx 10 database and
I'm trying to figure out how to perform a like type condition on a
text column. Anyone have any ideas on this, nothing seems to come up
in the documentation other than using the SDK to work against the db.
Thanks in advance.

You cannot use LIKE or MATCHES with a TEXT or DATA type column. You
need the text datablade.

Art,
Thanks for the info. I'm an MS SQL user primarily thrown in to the
realm of Informix so my apologies, whats a text datablade? Thanks.

http://www-306.ibm.com/software/data/informix/blades/excaliburtext/
heard a new one is coming since V10 and may be 11 has problems with
it...
text blade allows you to index large objects and perform indexed
searches on it.
you could look at this, it's nice!!
you may also have a look at writing a c function which could handle
the matches
on text datatypes. You have to register this in the server, (see
manual)
or maybe someone else has written a function you could use?? dono.
there used to be datablade corner search for it on the ibm site.
Superboer.
