I have posted the results of an Informix investigation a few years ago using Data General hardware that showed that Hardware mirroring is best but that Informix mirror was not far behind with software (OS level) mirror bringing up the rear. That was with the 5.0 product, I would imagine, though I have not tested, that 7.2x which can both read from and write to both sides of an Informix mirror independently will perform even better.
