Re: Info. on Informix Universal Server

Seth, I am not sure where you got your information about the PLS blade, but to the best of my knowledge, the PLS blade (which I maintained for over a year) does not use free() -- it uses mi_free(), the Illustra server API call. When last I worked on it, Informix was investigating the problems with the use of mi_free on IRIX 6.2 encountered in the PLS blade--the problem had not yet been isolated. In a more general thread: From my experience, the biggest problem with both Illustra and IUS DataBlades, especially low-level blades like text, is that they require a major joint effort, in development, maintenance and customer support, between the third-party organization and Informix to ensure that the integration works correctly with the server. This level of support requires a significant commitment from both parties. Without a strong level of commitment from both parties, data corruption and server crashes could be a problem -- just as it would be if Informix was not committed to their servers. Please do not get me wrong -- I strongly believe in the Informix Universal Server and DataBlade technologies. But, they are complex technologies and therefore require complex solutions. All opinions expressed here are my own and do not reflect the opinions of either PLS or Informix. ------------ On 30 Apr 1997 22:00:27 -0400, grimes@access1.digex.net (Seth Grimes) wrote: >satriguy@aol.com (SaTriGuy) writes: > >>>Does anybody have any experience in using Inofrmix Universal Server? >>>If so are there any problems with it.
