RE: Oracle ?
Posted in 2004
Just a note on version 9.21 (the 9.2x versions) - IBM (the head of Informix database development) admitted themselves that this was a very bad version, and that people should move off this version ASAP ! This is probably why they would prefer not to support this version - but 9.5 will be release soon, 9.6 is being developed, and 9.7 is already being planned ! And the support for the version 7's have been extended for another couple of years. -----Original Message----- From: Hamilton, Jerry [mailto:hamiltoj@fleishman.com] Sent: Wednesday, December 15, 2004 4:54 PM To: Dirk Moolman Cc: Art S. We don't have the staff, time or energy to keep our application, database and operating system up-to-date with patches or current releases. For this very reason we fear Oracle. We recently were dragged through a Sarbanes-Oxley audit that suffocated development for 4 months, not to mention the additional hours to manage the audit while at the same time doing our *real* jobs. It appears that my sad story is reflective of a lot of IT shops. IT isn't glamorous any more. In my case, my new boss is an Oracle partner, and has decided to move to Oracle - not in my hands. -----Original Message----- From: Hamilton, Jerry [mailto:hamiltoj@fleishman.com] Sent: Tuesday, December 14, 2004 5:23 PM To: Dirk Moolman; informix-list@iiug.org Subject: RE: Oracle ? We're starting to work with Oracle since we're also a PeopleSoft shop. We fear that OraSoft will discontinue support of IDS in the near future. And since IBM is quick to pull the plug for support on their products,,,why not try the dark side....
