Hi group, IHAC that is getting the following error message in their application server logs periodically from two different application servers on two different machines: -1803 Connection does not exist. The application servers work but this is causing some problems when it occurs. Database server: IDS 10.00.FC5 AIX 5.3 (seen on both 5300-04 and 5300-05) Application servers: Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 4 (Nahant Update 3) 2.6.9-34.ELsmp On the database server machine there is nothing in the online.log at, and around the time of the occurrence and the server has not reached the maximum amount of user connections. All the machines are on the same network so there are no firewalls messing things up. The app servers has a pool of connections open against the database server and since this is still in testing I assume that not all of them are actually used. The problem could be a TCP timeout issue on the AIX box as this hasn't been seen on systems with the same setup with only Linux operating systems. The AIX network settings (man no) are all set to their default settings and there is nothing relevant in the OS event log. Has anyone had any experience with this type of problem before? Would changing any network settings on the AIX box make any difference? /RoB
I have seen it very often. In my case it has either been because of an enforced OS/firewall level timeout, or it has been because of a 2 instance join where one of the instances has died. ----- Original Message ---- From: RoB <plumas4u@yahoo.com> To: informix-list@iiug.org Sent: Thursday, September 21, 2006 10:29:37 AM Subject: -1803 Connection does not exist. We had this same issue, but the application server was a Windows XP desktop. After applying SP2, when the user would not use the connection they would get a -1803 and/or a database not selected (can't remember the error number). It turned out to be a network setting within windows. It may have been the windows firewall, not sure. Check out your network settings on the application server, there may be something killing the network connection when there is no activity. Sorry I don't know more details, but you are on the correct path.
