RE: Here's an opportunity for Informix...

I just did a quick read. For those where English isn't your first language. Read that as replacing the existing Oracle with Informix. (I hope everyone already read it that way... :-) IHMO this would be a fairly simple decision. Almost a no brainer. But what we would consider common sense doesn't always work within IBM. Heck its taken them 6+ years to figure out that Informix is better than DB2, only you can't get an IBMer to admit to that in public. :-P Now if only they had maintained (enhanced) XPS... (Ooops! Now I've gone and pissed off some people with that comment.) But hey! What do I know? I'm still waiting to hear all about Informix's big Hadoop annoucement outside of a presentation scheduled at the IIUG conference... -G From: im_gumby@hotmail.com To: informix-list@iiug.org Subject: Here's an opportunity for Informix... Date: Wed, 23 Mar 2011 20:59:26 +0000 http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/03/23/oracle_stops_itanium_development/ For those too lazy to read the story... Oracle is no longer supporting the Itanium processor. So you tell me... which is easier. Buying new hardware or swapping out Informix for Oracle? Prior to the acquisition, HP and Informix had a decent relationship.... But hey! What do I know? I'm just trying to find a silver lining and an opportunity for Informix. After all, I imagine that it would be easier getting an Informix port back to Itanium than trying to port DB2 since most of DB2's distributed clients (read LUW) run on AIX. ;-) -G _______________________________________________ Informix-list mailing list Informix-list@iiug.org http://www.iiug.org/mailman/listinfo/informix-list
