JAVA and INFORMIX - WHO WHAT WHEN WHERE WHY & HOW

I haven't seen the postings, so forgive me if they've come and gone, but the question is: What is the INFORMIX position on JAVA? After spending some time now investigating Java since the last user group meeting I attended, I got Javamania. Went and bought books, software, and been spending some time learning the product. Looks cool, and I seriously wonder why I would need New Era once the JDBC stuff comes out. Maybe I'm wrong, but if I had Java set up with the right functionality, it should be able to do the client/server thing we all want to do, without spending a fortune on New Era. Am I wrong? And has anyone built ODBC in-line C code with their applets? This is really a cool product, and look forward to learning more about how INFORMIX is integrating this into Universal Server.
