I didn't check what you are trying to do, but the most obvious way
is to prepare the statement like:
pstmt = conn.prepareStatement("insert into tab1 values (?, ?)");
and then just call:
pstmt.setString(1, "chacacters");
pstmt.setString(2, "more characters ?");
