How about this: A site I am aware of set up a pair of machines with Sun's failover and the DB data disks on swingable drives. However they put the IDS installation and all of the config files on local drives. Of course, duplicated on both sides. Don't get ahead of me here! Naturally several years later when the server crashed the engine would not come up on the backup server because several critical paths had changed in the config files on the primary but not in the config file copies on the backup.
