Re: Online Workgroup Server Replacing SE??

This is partly true. SE gets some new SQL features from new engines and is supported and maintained well, but is no longer a key primary product for Informix. The idea I think, is that the OWS products are simple enough that they can replace SE. This is, as of yet, far from true. SE is still far simpler to install and maintain then OWS. There is no kernel tuning needed and it can run for years while the user does nothing but change backuptapes for backups run automatically at night. I am quite sure though, that you can continue to run SE for years without problems. Eventually Informix will however also be able to make OWS installation and maintenance as simple as SE. At that time you should of course change to it. Informix's aim, according to Stonebreaker, is to have a maintenance tool with two buttons: On and Off. My question to this is: Why the buttons? jyu@vcn.bc.ca (Joseph Yu) wrote: : :I went to Vancouver Comdex show and talked to someone in the :Informix booth.
