i'm on an hp 10.2 with an out of date c compiler, and have been using gcc for most jobs. most of the stuff i code in esql/c has been compiling ok, but i wanted to compile art's dostats.ec and lo, it complained about the ansi prototyping. is there a way to instruct the esql/c to use gcc or ?
Set environment variable INFORMIXC=gcc.
or Use -Ae option.
Wish this helps you....

Set INFORMIXC="gcc" in the environment. Or add -Ae to use the HP compiler. I'm told that works even with the bundled compiler -- can you confirm that? -- Jonathan Leffler (jleffler@informix.com, jleffler@earthlink.net) Guardian of DBD::Informix v0.62 -- see http://www.perl.com/CPAN #include <disclaimer.h>

I've never needed to use -fwritable-strings with pure ESQL/C; only with I4GL. So, I did mean just "gcc". However, using -fwritable-strings will only do a little damage -- it prevents the compiler from doing some optimizations based on the read-only nature of the strings. -- Jonathan Leffler (jleffler@informix.com, jleffler@earthlink.net) Guardian of DBD::Informix v0.62 -- see http://www.perl.com/CPAN #include <disclaimer.h>

I never write to static strings anyway, too many bugs in code like that. So, -fwriteable-strings is not needed. Art S. Kagel Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
