Informix application programs interface to the database through a process called sqlexec (or sqlturbo); this process communicates with the application process through pipes. The 408 error code generally means that the sqlexec process has aborted; you may see a core file around when this happens. In our case, we were able to stop sqlturbo from core dumping by simplifying our queries. We assumed sqlturbo had a logic error handling a complex query. We identified the query by what the application was doing when the 408 occurred. We did not get any help from Informix tech. support about why sqlturbo aborted. This problem was one of a long list of problems we had with turbo.
