Sorry, if this is already known but something is happening with my = e-mail, because I don't receive all the messages and I don't know the = original message (i.e. Questions about Informix/Windows connectivity). = But in some messages you are saying that you NEED an Informix (I-NET or = I-Connect) product installed in the client-side to get comunication = between your PC and your server and this is not true. I have installed = Windows 95 in my PC and the TCP/IP protocol that came with it. Just = this. No other product. In my server (Informix ONLINE 5.01) I don't have = installed the I-STAR. This is my installation and I can communicate my = VB apps with my Informix Databases. I'm using the Openlink software (in = both sides, client and server) and the communication is working. Then = you can say that for some ODBC's (like Intersolv) you NEED and Informix = product in your PC but for some ODBC's you DON'T NEED any Informix = product. OK? I am not aware of any ODBC software on the market (could be one I'm not aware of) that can connect with out the I-Connect layer (or I-Net depending on the versions involved). If you currently are on an Informix 5.x version, then in addition to an ODBC driver, you will need I-Net for the client and I-Star for the server (Online engines). Beginning with version 6.x the native connectivity libraries started coming with the engine and the tools products. They jsut need to be configured. You will still obviously need an ODBC driver. If you have CLI that is included.
