Has anyone tried to create a ramdisk and use it as an informix (raw) device? Linux or any other Unix? Hitting a shm memory limit on RH Linux and a vendor suggested to our staff to create a ramdisk and create the 1st temp space there. That sounds horribly dangerous to me, not to mention I don't know if it's even possible. RH AS3 for mp box IDS 9.40.UC2 Thanks for any info! BobR
Bob, Each first chunk of non-root dbspace (including temporary) has at least 53 pages filled-in with data (two reserved pages, one bitmap page and at least 50 'tablespace tablespace' pages) Other chunks of non-root dbspace have at least 3 pre-populated pages You need to restore contents of these pages before starting Informix every time after RAM disk clean-up (machine reboot) I think You can create image of these pages immediately after creating the temporary dbspace -Alexey > -----Original Message----- > From: BobR [mailto:robertro@spiritair.com] > > Has anyone tried to create a ramdisk and use it as an informix (raw) device? > Linux or any other Unix?
